Pays to let experts handle marketing A. Grant Lee, MCInst.M., RPM  2011

Marketing book co-authored by Richard
Appleby, MCInst.M, adopted as Institute’s
reference book

MKTG‘s aim was to ensure that all key marketing information was present, but do it in about half the volume of traditional texts. This was to be done by removing things like author bios, unread intro chapter scenarios, too many examples on an issue for one instead using current example relevant to the reader with pictures to make it more interesting, changing design layout.

Reference materials, questions, cases, and quizzes were made available on-line. The result is an interesting marketing text that focus groups and professors agree that they read as it is more interesting, easier to understand, takes less time and costs less.

MKTG is the “Top Selling” undergraduate text in Canada. To keep MKTG current, the authors are preparing for the second edition for release in spring of 2012 with proposed additional features to meet the changing needs and wants of students and professors.

Canadian Institute of Marketing in partnership with ACCES for coaching professional marketing and sales newcomers

The Canadian Institute of Marketing has embarked on its largest project with a client group, since its inception in 1982. The Institute has joined with ACCES Employment Services (through the ACCES Brampton office) to provide one-to-one pre and post employment supports in the form of business communications and sector specific workplace coaching to Sales and Marketing Connections program participants.

Selected Institute members will coach on document editing via email, or in-person, specific to: proposal writing; sales or marketing presentations; contract preparation; and/or, report writing. Members will work with ACCES clients on business communications and workplace coaching via email, in-person or telephone, specific to: occupational terminology; conducting effective negotiations; prospecting and building relationships (sales calls); developing and maintaining a sales funnel; networking; conflict resolution; preparing and delivering effective presentations or proposals (for interview and/or on-the-job purposes); and/or, developing a marketing plan in the context of the Canadian market.

The Institute’s executive director, Grant Lee, signed the agreement on May 25. The first group of ACCESS clients was matched with Canadian Institute of Marketing members in June, following a presentation to about 20 newcomers who had enrolled in the ACCES program
